Mom, this should be a blog post of its own! Wow! Thanks so much...so the dandelions would be okay to eat now, we're still early enough in the season?

Re: Dandelions. Knowing which 'weeds' are edible and 'when' could save your life some day. The very earliest dandelion greens and the buds have long been a spring tonic after long months without fresh greens. The leaves get bitter as the season goes on. The blossoms can be dropped briefly into salt water (to discourage any little insects who may have taken up residence there) and then drained, dipped into egg and water mix and then into seasoned flour and then deep fried. They have somewhat the texture of mushrooms but not the taste. The roots can be peeled (like carrots or parsnips), dried in a slow oven and then ground to make a coffee substitute. E. Gibbons' book, "Stalking the Wild Asparagus" relates his many experiences with gathering wild plants and having 'dinner' parties serving them to guests. There is never any need to starve if you gather where there has been no toxic sprays or auto exhaust. Fun! Jana, you should try some of this!

Love you, Mom! (For those who care to know, my mom has fried dandelions for us before...)

Thank you dear friends for the Mother's Day greetings! I love ya'all for stopping by!

Jana, I'm jealous, our lilacs were blooming--and then it snowed, browning them up. If they'd waited till now...oh well. My irises aren't as prolific, but I do have a few blooming...

Mary's mom...do NOT say that in front of my hubby! :)

Love the poem...so fitting for me because our yard is bloomin' with dandelions and I get a handful given to me most every day. My favoritest thign to do is wear 'em in my hear...now that lilacs are blooming though they are moving on to those so our house is smelling grand!

Happy Mother's Day (late) to you too!

"I have no greater joy than to know my children walk in truth"!!! Your words have always been a refreshment to me, my dear one. You are gifted that way. By the way, I love dandelions! They are a gift of God even if they are not socially correct!
