I just made chili and cornbread, but am keeping it stashed for the next couple of days in case our power goes out!

I got a special request from my hubby to make chili and cornbread. So, last night, his request was granted.

I love soups, vegetable, chicken and dumplings, beef stew, calabaza, menudo, I could go and on. And the best part? Most of these dishes are healthy.

Mom, I'm so glad you liked the soup! I'm trying to find out what malt syrup is, and where you buy it...and in the process found a link for the recipe you mentioned from Bernard Clayton's book. I loved the variations listed beneath the recipe! Yum! http://www.recipelink.com/ch/bow/041999/smallbreads.html

Holly, nowhere near awesome, not me! But thanks anyway! These are yummy crackers, but I can't wait to try them with whole wheat flour...

You are so awesome, Mary. I just printed out the slow cooker Enchilada recipe. I love making crackers....just don't do it too often. But I love it when we do!

I got curious about crackers so i looked in what I told you earlier was Baird's Book on Breads. I was wrong. it is Bernard Clayton's Book on breads. He has 12 pages on crackers...different kinds. And I found the reason I never tried his recipe for soda crackers. It calls for malt syrup. Have you ever heard of that? I figured probably the recipe wouldn't turn out without it. I'm eager to try your recipe. I have always loved doing from scratch some of the things we usually buy already made. So I definitely will try them. Incidently the pumpkin/turkey soup you sent home with your Dad was wonderful.
