Very Encouraged at McCain’s Choice of VP

By Mary at 10:16 pm on August 30, 2008

So McCain chose a woman, and what a woman! This political race is getting more exciting–finally!

I wanted to point you to two wonderful articles…one written by Christian fiction authors, Brock and Bodie Thoene, about John McCain’s grueling POW experiences and Sarah Palin’s pro-life choices. Reading it blessed me enough to call my children over so they could see what we’re praying for…

This other article is from Albert Mohler’s site, titled, “Welcome to the World, Trig Paxson Van Palin–Now the World Has Seen You”. Trig is the four and a half month old son of Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin and her husband Todd. He’s their fifth child, and was born with Down’s syndrome.

Special thanks to Holly at Seeking Faithfulness, for posting links to these articles on her blog in the first place!

I’m feeling hopeful!

I am tremendously encouraged by McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin. I have often been thinking of Esther–God does choose women to do His will “for such a time as this.” Let’s be praying for His continued working and mercy on America.

I too have been very encouraged by McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin. It has brought to my mind Queen Esther–God does raise up women to do His will “for such a time as this.” Let’s all be praying that He will continue to work and have mercy on America.

I’m with you 100%. The Thoene’s wrote my old favorite series Zion Chronicles and Zion Covenant. These books covered the Nazi controlled world during the persecution of the Jews and their plight and goal of going to Israel. Thanks for bringing them back to my remembrance.

Well, it encouraged me to… encouraged me to write in my vote. I just don’t like the idea of a woman being so close to leading the country, regardless of what she stands for. I couldn’t vote for a canidate that puts a woman in such a powerful authoritive position. And of course I couldn’t vote for Obama because of his liberal views.

It was a good political move for McCain. I’m thrilled at the fact that our new VP could be a woman.

Lois, what a great point about God choosing Esther…I’m so glad you brought it up…b/c I was trying to balance out my feelings about moms needing to be home with their infants, etc, and the fact that Sarah Palin seems to put her family very high on her priority list while being an awesome Christian, pro-life role model that our country desperately needs! I loved the AP photo of her at work wearing her baby in a sling! Thanks for your comment, I hope you keep coming…

Aunt Ruth, I, too, LOVED the Thoene’s books! All of them. Have you read their new Jerusalem series yet? It’s fantastic. I’m glad this post reminded you of them! I’ve visited their blog before, it’s a goodun!

Ahhh, so Bethanie, you aren’t going to vote at all? I understand, believe me, but I guess I feel that maybe this is a case of God working in mysterious ways. Sarah’s job really puts her situation with her special needs son in the limelight, which is making her pro-life choices larger than life. I’m really cheering for McCain in this choice, it had to be hard to pick such a conservative candidate…knowing the flack he’s caught from the left wing so far. Now he’s really in the dog house. (But not with me!) ;)

Holly, wow, thanks! ;) You are so welcome…keep the good posts about Sarah coming! I really value your take on the whole thing. I do stand in amazement that a mom of a 4 month old might possibly become our next VP!?! How bizarre?

Colleen, we’ll see how it pans out! I haven’t had time to tune into any news since the announcement…bet the media are loving this new development. It’s probably not pretty.

Just a quickie, but Mrs. Palin needs our prayers for sure. My conservatives new radio station I’ve been tuned in to this morning read a blog from a left wing gal. The gist of it was that this sweet babe is really her grandchild based on her 17yr old daughter’s weight and that Mrs. Palin never looked very pregnant during the 9 months before birth. What an awful thing to put out there.

I am also very happy with Palin. McCain made a great choice.

Too bad the Dems had to attack her teenage daughter, it only strenthens the McCain position in the polls.

I can definitely sympathize with Bethanie. There’s something strange to the feeling. I’m really having a hard time mixing “Christian” with a woman that not only is going to be more prominent in her home than her husband– or just how does that dynamic work?

How do you have a husband as head of the home, but the wife runs the state, or the nation? How does that authority structure work?

Like I said, while I think through all this, I’m happy that she’s pro-life, and that her daughter is keeping the baby, but perhaps this is just a bit too much for me to think through at the same time.

It probably does, Leticia, I guess that’s one good thing?

MIn, I’m anxious to read your post about Palin. I admit to being a bit confused over why I’m so excited…when not so long ago I was appalled at the possibility of a woman president (Clinton)…I guess I’m not very balanced when you look at it that way. But. I’m still thinking that in this particular culture, McCain’s choice might be the innovative move he needed to win this race! Here’s hoping!

I didn’t say I wasn’t voting.. I am. I’m going to write in Mike Hucklebee. The bible says that a woman should not have authority over a man… and she will.

I’m glad you’re voting…and I definitely don’t fault you for feeling the way you do about Palin and a woman holding that kind of position…I probably should feel that way more strongly at the moment, but I keep thinking about how much better McCain/Palin would be than Obama. And I’d be scared to write in someone’s name if he didn’t have a huge chance of pulling it off(I have no clue about Huckabee’s chances as a write-in, maybe he’ll make a comeback)…b/c I think McCain is going to need a ton of votes to beat Obama.

Yes, amen! If they do get in, that will be amazing! To have a pro-life woman that high up…especially after thinking Hilary was inevitable…

If God has planned this for Sarah Palin (not saying He has!) then wouldn’t that be evidence of a pretty great sense of humor on His part? (Replacing Hilary with Palin?)

You know, I was concerened about what kind of wife she was being to her husband (not to mention what kind of mom) that I forgot to consider my own position as a wife. I’ve been so confused about the whole thing. Finally it dawned on me that I should find out what my husband thinks and go with him. So, now I know what I’m doing. He’s voting for McCain/Palin and therefore so am I. Duh!
