Blog Tour: The Swiss Courier

swiss_courier

Want a fantastic read over the holidays? I highly recommend The Swiss Courier, which, as reviewer Bob Welch said, “sizzles like a 24 episode with a World War II twist”.

Based on the 1944 Stauffenberg assasination attempt on Hitler’s life, co-authors Mike Yorkey and Tricia Goyer plot a heart-stopping, espionage-filled historical in which two sides of a major manhunt race to get their man. Full of surprises, good and evil find their match in a stunning conclusion to the best fiction I’ve read this year.

The Swiss Courier has it all: “you-are-there” historical detail, a heroic and gutsy Swiss girl– who underneath is just your everyday citizen willing to sacrifice for her country, and a hair-raising rescue to save a German scientist, unaware of his Jewish roots, from the Nazi’s. And all before his brilliant development of the atomic bomb falls into the wrong hands.

Back Cover Copy

It is August 1944 and the Gestapo is mercilessly rounding up suspected enemies of the Third Reich after an attempt on Hitler’s life.  Gabi Mueller is a young woman working for the newly formed American Office of Strategic Services (forerunner to the CIA) in Switzerland. When she is asked to put herself in harm’s way to safely “courier” a German scientist who is working on the atomic bomb out of enemy territory, the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

It is a GREAT book…reminds me somewhat of Helen MacInnes’ books of intrigue in the post WW II days…though MacInnes’ books are not Christian fiction. The Swiss Courier is a wonderful book.

I’ve never read any of Tricia Goyer’s works– this one sounds interesting, and I’m definitely waiting for 24.

Mary, as the co-author of “The Swiss Courier,” it’s tremendous to read your high praise for our World War II-era thriller. There are a lot of plot twists, and readers have been telling us that we’ve been keeping them up late to finish the last 50 pages. I spent three years, off and on, working on the novel, so there’s a ton of research, but it’s all woven in the plotline. No one has been able to figure out how “The Swiss Courier” ends yet, so there are some great surprises. Thanks again, Mike Yorkey

Mike and Tricia, it was my pleasure! Mike, I agree with all the things readers are saying. I couldn’t put the book down and was sad to see it end. The finale impressed me SO much, I kept twirling it around in my head for a week after! ;O) It’s a book I’m thrilled to recommend and give away…of course, I’m keeping my influencer copy!

    Thanks, everyone, for participating!

    lov your niece amber b.

  14. 14 Mary Dec 23rd, 2009 at 6:24 pm

Well, dear niece, ;O) 24 is a TV series starring Keifer Sutherland…I believe…not that I’ve ever watched it, b/c even when we had reception, it was on a channel with terrible static. The reviewer that likened this book to 24, was simply touting it’s action-packed intrigue! I have it here, and will have to loan it to you!!! ;O) So fun to have you comment here! Don’t be a stranger! Merry Christmas, sweetie!

I’d add that 24 is a bit violent– consisting of a lot of terror activities that are thwarted by a protagonist that has to wrestle with “ends justify means” throughout the show. It is very fast pace, with the “gimmick” being that each hour on television is an actual hour in the day that is the whole series.

It keeps you on the edge of your seat as the series is not afraid of having main characters die during the show– other than eliminate “Jack Bauer” (the protagonist), there’s little that they are afraid to do.

In that way, it reminds me of the Left Behind series in that the characters that you got attached to may die, even some of the main characters.

Sounds like something my husband would enjoy, MIn.

Probably too much for my niece Amber, though!! Thanks for summarizing it for us! Did you get the Swiss Courier?

  17. 17 MInTheGap Jan 8th, 2010 at 8:22 am

It definitely keeps you guessing what will happen next– you knew that they’d leave you on a cliff hanger every hour in the last 10 minutes. The 8th season starts a week from this Sunday…

I did receive the package– thanks! I have a book in progress, but it’s next on the night stand!

  18. 18 Mary Jan 12th, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Great! Thanks for letting me know!

The EIGHTH season? How many seasons can they stretch out a show that is supposed to be 24 hours? I guess they stretch 10 minutes of real life into one hour? Definitely got my interest up! ;)

  19. 19 MInTheGap Jan 18th, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Each season takes place over 24 hours– the gimmick is that it each episode takes place in “real time.” ‘Course there are a ton of jokes about “When does Jack find time to use the restroom or eat?”

Season 8 started last night, and there’s another two hours tonight.
