My header is a collage of me and my home…
If anyone is curious, the painting in the second picture is a famous one by Harvey Dunn, titled, “The Prairie is My Garden”.
I’ve always loved this picture, as my mom had a poster-sized print hanging in the dining room all of my growing up years. That indomitable pioneer spirit…evidenced by the soddy in the background and beautiful womanhood with shears and wildflowers in one hand, and daughters in tow…
Makes me just want to go put on a long white apron!
The quilt is one my mother made for me in celebration of the birth of my first child…the double wedding ring pattern is my favorite. I have several quilts around the house, they’re so homelike and cozy, stacked or draped over racks. You can see one that I made myself, it’s the rolled up “Autumn Leaf” one in the sewing basket in the first picture of the line-up. One of these days I’ll finally get around to hanging it on my bedroom wall.
The Ball canning jars were my maternal grandmother’s, the silver spoons in the enamelware spooner were her sister’s…my paternal grandpa built the walnut bookshelf…my oldest daughter locker-hooked the homespun potholder propped behind the jars. This bookcase is in my living room, right next to the kitchen doorway…
The antique dresser is also in my living room, it takes the place of an entry table by our front door. Above it hangs a mirror my dh had his older brother frame for us, using an old pair of oxen haymes. Everything atop that dresser is handmade by someone in our family, with the exception of the Amish basket.
A little glimpse into my life for you!
